| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Victoire Raoul; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul was born in Cap Haitien, Haiti in |
| 5 |
| November of 1932; she was the first of the five daughters of |
| 6 |
| Norelie and Joseph Prosper; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, A dedicated student with a passion for helping and |
| 8 |
| caring for those in need, Victoire Raoul studied nursing at |
| 9 |
| Ecole des Infirmieres Cap Haitien, where she graduated in 1959; |
| 10 |
| and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul migrated to the United States in |
| 12 |
| 1962, first settling in New York; she then relocated to |
| 13 |
| Chicago, where she worked as a nurse and met Gilbert Raoul, who |
| 14 |
| she married in July of 1962; their beloved son, Philip, was |
| 15 |
| born to them in November of 1965; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul served as a nurse in numerous |
| 17 |
| hospitals in and around Chicago; beginning her career at |
| 18 |
| Woodlawn Hospital, she moved on to serve at Mercy Hospital, |
| 19 |
| Northwestern Hospital, the University of Chicago Hospital, |
| 20 |
| Christ Hospital, and Provident Hospital, from which she retired |
| 21 |
| in 1997; however, her commitment to helping those in need was |

| so great that she returned to the work force at South Shore |
| 2 |
| Hospital, where she served as a nurse in the hospital's |
| 3 |
| Chemical Dependence Unit until her health intervened in 2004; |
| 4 |
| and |
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul was a soft-spoken servant, |
| 6 |
| witness, and teacher of God's will and love for Jesus, proving |
| 7 |
| her devotion on a daily basis through her family and friends, |
| 8 |
| as well as her work as a nurse; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul is survived by her son, Philip, and |
| 10 |
| his wife, Tracy; her grandchildren, Akila, Abdel, and Ahmad; |
| 11 |
| her sisters, Livie, Paula (John), Vena (Biocenne), and Eponin; |
| 12 |
| her brother-in-law, Joseph Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Odette, |
| 13 |
| Marie Julienne, Clemence, and Marie Claude (Robert, Sr.); and |
| 14 |
| her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, |
| 15 |
| extended family members, co-workers, and friends; therefore, |
| 16 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
| 18 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 19 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Victoire Raoul; and be |
| 20 |
| it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| presented to the family of Victoire Raoul as an expression of |
