| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Cory V. Atwell on |
| 4 | | the occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of the |
| 5 | | Glen Ellyn Park District; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Cory Atwell graduated from Western Illinois |
| 7 | | University in Macomb, earning his bachelor's degree and his |
| 8 | | master's degree in parks and recreation administration; he is |
| 9 | | also a Certified Park and Recreation Professional; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Cory Atwell served his country with pride and |
| 11 | | distinction as a member of the United States Armed Forces from |
| 12 | | 1971 to 1973; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Cory Atwell was employed in the parks and |
| 14 | | recreation field for 30 years at the Crystal Lake Park |
| 15 | | District, the Village of Park Forest, Olympia Fields, the |
| 16 | | Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, and the Glen Ellyn Park |
| 17 | | District; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Executive Director of the |
| 19 | | Glen Ellyn Park District, Cory Atwell was instrumental in the |
| 20 | | completion of numerous district projects, including the |
| 21 | | purchase of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District |
|

| 1 | | administrative building and its renovation into the Spring |
| 2 | | Avenue Recreation Center; the provision of $725,000 toward the |
| 3 | | enlargement of two gymnasiums at School District #41 in |
| 4 | | exchange for before-school and after-school use for recreation |
| 5 | | programs; the procurement of over $3.5 million dollars in grant |
| 6 | | monies from IDNR, OSLAD, and Illinois First; the purchase of |
| 7 | | the old Maryknoll Seminary in Glen Ellyn and its renovation |
| 8 | | into a 26-acre community park; the construction of a young |
| 9 | | adult in-line skate park at Newton Park and an additional lap |
| 10 | | pool at the Sunset Pool Aquatic Park; the acquisition of over |
| 11 | | 75 acres of open space for the Park District since 1997; the |
| 12 | | renovation of the Main Street Recreation Center in 2009; the |
| 13 | | installation of a vortex system for Lake Ellyn to improve the |
| 14 | | water quality and ice skating in the winter; the renovation of |
| 15 | | the Village Green Park Multi-Sports Outdoor Complex; the |
| 16 | | creation of 23 agreements with various governmental bodies and |
| 17 | | private entities; and the opening of the Ackerman Sports and |
| 18 | | Fitness Center in January of 2010; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Cory Atwell and his loving wife have 3 children |
| 20 | | and 2 grandchildren; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Cory Atwell serves as a model of hard work, |
| 22 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
| 23 | | Illinois; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 2 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 3 | | congratulate Cory V. Atwell on the occasion of his retirement |
| 4 | | and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it |
| 5 | | further

| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to Cory Atwell as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
