HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate State Representative Paul Froehlich on his retirement after eight years of dedicated service to the people of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich has been a determined and thoughtful lawmaker and advocate for the people of the 56th District, which includes Bloomingdale, Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, and Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, Prior to becoming a State representative, Representative Froehlich proudly served on the District 54 Board of Education from 1989 to 1993, as a Schaumburg Township School Trustee in 1997 and 1998, and as Schaumburg Township Assessor from 2002 to 2004; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich has a long history of community involvement; he served as the Chairman of the Standby Local Draft Board and Chairman of the Schaumburg Village Scholarship Committee; he was a member of the Schaumburg Police Pension Board from 1996 to 2003; and a founding Board Member of the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists from 1982 to 1995; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich worked as a high school teacher for 13 years and as a lawmaker has had a passion for improving education in Illinois; throughout his career as a public servant, he has worked to encourage efforts to close the achievement gap threatening the potential of so many students and to create better educational opportunities for all Illinois students; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich has guided many consequential pieces of legislation through the General Assembly; he has worked to raise awareness of the dangers that pesticides pose to vulnerable populations, as well as, environmental hazards throughout Illinois in need of remediation; and he has worked to safeguard our water supplies by preventing pollution in Lake Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich has been a leader in promoting safety on our roads, strengthening DUI laws and developing graduated driving privileges and refinements to laws covering teen motorists to reduce fatalities, injuries, and help them learn to be careful drivers; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure in the House, Representative Froehlich has served on many committees, including most recently as Chairman of the Cities and Villages Committee and a member of the Elementary and Secondary Education, Environmental Health, Prison Reform, Railroad Industry, School Transportation, and State Government Administration Committees; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich earned a reputation as a lawmaker who was bound to follow his conscience and do what he thought to be in the best interests of his constituents, regardless of any personal consequences to be faced as a result of his decisions; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich and his wife, Marilyn, are the proud parents of three children; he is a proud graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, from which he received a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in History; and

WHEREAS, Representative Froehlich has served his constituents with distinction and will be missed by his colleagues; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate State Representative Paul Froehlich on his retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to State Representative Paul Froehlich as a token of our respect and esteem, and with our best wishes for success in all of his future endeavors.
