| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, |
| 4 | | faculty, and administration of Walter Payton College |
| 5 | | Preparatory High School in Chicago for winning the top award in |
| 6 | | the Intel Schools of Distinction contest; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Intel Schools of Distinction contest was |
| 8 | | designed to prepare tomorrow's innovators in the areas of |
| 9 | | innovative math and science programs; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Walter Payton College Prep is a Chicago high |
| 11 | | school with a student body representing youth from more than |
| 12 | | 100 elementary schools around the city; the school serves a |
| 13 | | diverse student body and focuses on mathematics, science, and |
| 14 | | world languages; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, As a result of Walter Payton College Prep's strict |
| 16 | | standards and world-class curriculum, more than 99% of Payton |
| 17 | | students meet or exceed State math standards and 98% of its |
| 18 | | students graduate and excel in academic competitions; the |
| 19 | | school also has an excellent record for helping students |
| 20 | | qualify for AP courses and pass AP tests; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, As a winner of the Intel Schools of Distinction |

| 1 | | contest, Walter Payton College Prep won an estimated $160,000 |
| 2 | | in a combination of cash grants from the Intel Foundation and |
| 3 | | an award package of curriculum materials, professional |
| 4 | | development resources, and computer hardware and software; the |
| 5 | | school also took home the Star Innovator Award, which earned it |
| 6 | | an additional $15,000 from the Intel Foundation for a total of |
| 7 | | $175,000 in cash and prizes; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Walter Payton College Prep and its students serve |
| 9 | | as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the |
| 10 | | people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 13 | | congratulate the students, faculty, and administration of |
| 14 | | Walter Payton College Preparatory High School for winning the |
| 15 | | top award in the Intel Schools of Distinction contest and wish |
| 16 | | them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it |
| 17 | | further

| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to Ellen Estrada, principal of Walter Payton College |
| 20 | | Prep, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
