| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Christel |
| 4 | | N. Clemmons-Butler, who passed away on July 31, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Christel Clemmons-Butler was born on January 16, |
| 6 | | 1939, in Chicago; her parents were Christopher and Flora Mae |
| 7 | | (Hayes) Cross; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Christel Clemmons-Butler was christened at Church |
| 9 | | of the Good Shepherd; she attended Colman Elementary School, Du |
| 10 | | Sable High School, Loyola University's Water Tower Campus, and |
| 11 | | Midwestern Broadcasting School; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After working at Michael Reese Hospital and Delta |
| 13 | | Airlines, Christel Clemmons-Butler spent 34 proud years at |
| 14 | | United Airlines before her retirement in 2001; she also worked |
| 15 | | as an employment and consumer affairs representative, appeared |
| 16 | | in United Airlines industrial videos, and was a co-recipient of |
| 17 | | a Human Resources Division MVP award for establishing the first |
| 18 | | Welfare-to-Work Program in the country; she served as a |
| 19 | | consultant to the Small Business Administration for that |
| 20 | | program; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Christel Clemmons-Butler spent 31 years as an |
|

| 1 | | Illinois State Real Estate Sales and Referral Counselor and |
| 2 | | held an FCC Radio Broadcasting and Operator License in |
| 3 | | Illinois; she was also affiliated with the National Association |
| 4 | | of Realtors, the Board of Directors of Hope Community Service |
| 5 | | in Markham, and Jus' Friends; while living in Las Vegas, Chris |
| 6 | | served on the Boards of Directors of, and served as an officer |
| 7 | | for, AARP NW Chapter #4395 and the Clark County Urban League |
| 8 | | Guild; she was also a member of the Chicago Connection, Las |
| 9 | | Vegas Drifters, Inc., Las Vegas Jazz Society, NAACP, and Pokeno |
| 10 | | "9"; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Christel Clemmons-Butler loved to travel; she |
| 12 | | volunteered her time to a plethora of organizations and still |
| 13 | | found time to show off her beautiful smile and inimitable style |
| 14 | | through her modeling in fashion shows; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Christel Clemmons-Butler was preceded in death by |
| 16 | | her children, Gregory and Geoffrey; Kenneth Butler; her first |
| 17 | | husband, Vincent B. Clemmons; and her second husband, Frank L. |
| 18 | | Butler; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Christel Clemmons-Butler is survived by her |
| 20 | | children, Brent H. Clemmons (Cathy), Frank Butler, Ronald |
| 21 | | (Peggy), Rochelle Butler-Nelson (James), Paul (Diane), Milton |
| 22 | | Craig, Keith (Phyllis), Kathleen Butler-Walker (Gil), Kevin |
| 23 | | (Anita), and Regina Butler-Smith (Phil); her numerous |

| 1 | | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her many cousins |
| 2 | | and friends; therefore, be it
|
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 4 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 5 | | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of |
| 6 | | Christel N. Clemmons-Butler; and be it further
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Christel Clemmons-Butler as an |
| 9 | | expression of our sympathy.
