HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the volunteers, 
4
staff, and patrons of the Irish American Heritage Center in 
5
Chicago on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Center; 
6
and
  
 
7
    WHEREAS, On April 18, 1985, the purchase of the building 
8
located at 4626 N. Knox Avenue in Chicago, was completed; the 
9
building had, at one time, been a grammar school and Mayfair 
10
Junior College; and
  
 
11
    WHEREAS, The April 18th date coincided with the anniversary 
12
of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, a warning to American 
13
colonists that "the British are coming"; and
  
 
14
    WHEREAS, Over the last 25 years, the Center has become home 
15
to an Art Gallery, a Library, a Museum, and two Theatres; the 
16
Center is home to additional rooms that are available for 
17
larger events, including the Fifth Province and the Erin 
18
Ballroom; and
  
 
19
    WHEREAS, The building underwent extensive repairs and 
20
restoration with the help of Hugh O'Hara and the Shamrock 
21
American Club, and the Irish Fellowship Club members under

    WHEREAS, The success of the Center illustrates the Irish

proverb "There is not strength until we work together";

therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7
congratulate everyone involved in the Irish American Heritage 
8
Center and wish them the best for the future; and be it further
  
 
9
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10
presented to Tim McDonnell, Executive Director of the Irish 
11
American Heritage Center, as a symbol of our respect and 
12
esteem.
