HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Denene Wilmeth on 
4
her retirement from the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors 
5
Bureau; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Denene Wilmeth has been the 
7
executive director of the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors 
8
Bureau; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, When her husband passed away in 1976, she found 
10
herself with two children about to enter college and the 
11
responsibility of caring for her husband's elderly mother; 
12
after losing  a bid for the local school board she was given a 
13
part-time job at the visitors bureau; and
  
 
14
    WHEREAS, During her time as executive director she has 
15
received many awards and honors, including the United States 
16
Jaycee Women "Women in Government Award" in 1985 and the Women 
17
of Excellence, Business or Professional award; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, She has served on the Decatur District 61 Board of 
19
Education, as Chair of the Illinois Association of School 
20
Boards Large District Council and Board of Directors, as Chair 
21
of the Decatur City Plan Commission, the Decatur Federal

Enterprise Zone Committee, and the Eastern Illinois University 
2
Advisory Council for Applied Sciences; and
  
 
3
    WHEREAS, She holds International Association of Convention 
4
and Visitor Bureaus Educational Certificates in Tourism 
5
Marketing, Convention Marketing, Communication, Convention 
6
Services, Finance and Administration, CEO, Research, 
7
Technology, and Illinois Bureau of Tourism, Heritage Tourism I 
8
and II; therefore, be it
  
 
9
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11
congratulate Denene Wilmeth on her retirement, thank her for 
12
her years of service, and wish her all the best in her future 
13
endeavors; and be it further
  
 
14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to Denene Wilmeth as a symbol of our respect and 
16
esteem.
