HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4
Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department for winning the Service To 
5
Mankind Award from the Hillsboro SERTOMA Club; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, The Service To Mankind Award is given by the 
7
Hillsboro SERTOMA Club to individuals, couples, or groups who 
8
have done significant or outstanding things for the betterment 
9
of their community; the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department 
10
(HVFD) was selected as a Service To Mankind Award winner for 
11
the department's unceasing commitment to the protection of 
12
residents and their property as part of their community; and
  
 
13
    WHEREAS, The Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department was 
14
created in 1888 as the Hillsboro Fire Company; the department's 
15
original 29 members had an early fire wagon pulled by two 
16
horses from the Wilton livery stable, which was situated on the 
17
northwest corner of the Courthouse Square in Hillsboro; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, Today, the HVFD has 37 active members who undergo 
19
constant training in fire and rescue work; the department has 
20
11 vehicles, including a ladder truck, a new platform truck, 
21
and 3 boats used for water rescue and recoveries; the equipment 
22
is housed at the expanded fire house on Broad Street in

Hillsboro; and

    WHEREAS, The members of the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire 
3
Department serves as models of hard work, integrity, and 
4
dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, 
5
be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8
congratulate the members of the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire 
9
Department for winning the Service To Mankind Award from the 
10
Hillsboro SERTOMA Club and wish them continued success and 
11
happiness in the future; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
13
presented to the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department as a 
14
symbol of our esteem and respect.
