HOUSE RESOLUTION 1000

    WHEREAS, The general public as well as  conservation and 
3
constituent organizations strongly support the efforts of the 
4
Illinois Department of Natural Resources to support, enhance, 
5
and protect the natural resources of the State of Illinois, 
6
particularly waterways and recreational water trails 
7
throughout the State; and
  
 
8
    WHEREAS, The Illinois Greenways and Trails Council was 
9
organized as Illinois' "State Trail Advisory Board" under the 
10
Natural Recreational Trails Fund Act, which authorizes the 
11
Recreational Trails Program; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, The Illinois Greenways and Trail Council has the 
13
expertise and experience needed to identify high quality 
14
recreational trails and greenways; and

  
 
  
15
    WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the natural 
16
resources of the State for the Illinois Department of Natural 
17
Resources to work cooperatively with the Illinois Greenways and 
18
Trails Council; therefore, be it
  
 
19
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
20
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
21
urge the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to cooperate

and coordinate with the Illinois Greenways and Trails Council 
2
in order to develop a model heritage water trail plan as well 
3
as national heritage waterways and other high-quality 
4
recreational waterway trails and recreational opportunities; 
5
and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
delivered to the Director of Natural Resources and the Governor 
8
of the State of Illinois.
