| WHEREAS, Mary McGlynn, an esteemed resident of Belleville |
| 3 |
| and an exceptional student at Althoff Catholic High School, has |
| 4 |
| achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service |
| 5 |
| by receiving a 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential |
| 7 |
| Financial in partnership with the National Association of |
| 8 |
| Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across |
| 9 |
| America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to |
| 10 |
| serving their communities; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Mary McGlynn earned this award by co-founding a |
| 12 |
| non-profit organization that has distributed 2,400 malaria bed |
| 13 |
| nets to poor townspeople in Uganda since 2007; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Mary wrote a grant proposal, created a website, |
| 15 |
| made and sold jewelry, and solicited donations to raise $30,000 |
| 16 |
| to purchase and distribute nets with the help of both |
| 17 |
| volunteers in the United States and Uganda; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength |
| 19 |
| of this State's communities, and the overall vitality of our |
| 20 |
| society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young |
| 21 |
| people like Mary McGlynn, who use their considerable talents |
