| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dennis Schmidt on |
| 4 |
| the occasion of the conclusion of his 35-year career as Police |
| 5 |
| Chief of the Montgomery Police Department and for his new |
| 6 |
| position as manager of Waubonsee Community College's driver |
| 7 |
| safety program; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt is a native of Aurora; he began his |
| 9 |
| career with the Montgomery Police Department in 1974, when he |
| 10 |
| was hired as a patrol officer upon his discharge from the U.S. |
| 11 |
| Army, where he had served as a medic; in 1978, he was promoted |
| 12 |
| to the rank of sergeant; in September of 1981, he was appointed |
| 13 |
| to serve as police chief by the late Village President Stu |
| 14 |
| Johnson; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, During Dennis Schmidt's tenure, the Montgomery |
| 16 |
| Police Department saw a period of steady growth, especially |
| 17 |
| over the past decade, as the village population grew from a |
| 18 |
| population of about 4,000 to more than 17,000 residents; to |
| 19 |
| accommodate the village's growing police department, Mr. |
| 20 |
| Schmidt played a key role in the planning for a new police |
| 21 |
| station on U.S. Route 30 at Griffin Drive; the facility, which |
| 22 |
| was designed and sized to accommodate the village's future |
| 23 |
| population growth, was dedicated in 2005; he has also served |
