HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dennis Schmidt on 
4
the occasion of the conclusion of his 35-year career as Police 
5
Chief of the Montgomery Police Department and for his new 
6
position as manager of Waubonsee Community College's driver 
7
safety program; and
  
 
8
    WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt is a native of Aurora; he began his 
9
career with the Montgomery Police Department in 1974, when he 
10
was hired as a patrol officer upon his discharge from the U.S. 
11
Army, where he had served as a medic; in 1978, he was promoted 
12
to the rank of sergeant; in September of 1981, he was appointed 
13
to serve as police chief by the late Village President Stu 
14
Johnson; and
  
 
15
    WHEREAS, During Dennis Schmidt's tenure, the Montgomery 
16
Police Department saw a period of steady growth, especially 
17
over the past decade, as the village population grew from a 
18
population of about 4,000 to more than 17,000 residents; to 
19
accommodate the village's growing police department, Mr. 
20
Schmidt played a key role in the planning for a new police 
21
station on U.S. Route 30 at Griffin Drive; the facility, which 
22
was designed and sized to accommodate the village's future 
23
population growth, was dedicated in 2005; he has also served

admirably as a leader during numerous emergencies in 
2
Montgomery, including the floods in the Parkview Estates 
3
Subdivision in 1972, 1983, and 1996; and
  
 
4
    WHEREAS, Following his departure from the Montgomery 
5
Police Department, Dennis Schmidt will serve as manager of 
6
Waubonsee Community College's driver safety program, where his 
7
expertise and talents will be greatly beneficial to the 
8
students and instructors of the program; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt serves as a model of hard work, 
10
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
11
Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
12
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14
congratulate Dennis Schmidt on the occasion of the conclusion 
15
of his 35-year career as Police Chief of the Montgomery Police 
16
Department and for his new position at Waubonsee Community 
17
College; and be it further
  
 
18
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19
presented to Dennis Schmidt as a symbol of our esteem and 
20
respect.
