HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Spirit of Life Chorus members and their director, David Barth, as they celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Chorus; and

WHEREAS, The Chorus was formed in 1989 with 17 charter members; they performed their first concert on February 10, 1990; on May 2, 2010 they will perform their 299th concert at Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights; and

WHEREAS, Over the last twenty years the ranks have swelled to 120 members of the Chorus, including singers, accompaniment musicians, and sales staff; over 300 singers have been a part of the Spirit of Life Chorus since its beginning; and

WHEREAS, In 2007 the Chorus received the State of Illinois Homefront Hero Award for collecting over $30,000 in non-perishable items for troops overseas; and in 2009 Director David Barth was inducted into the Taft High School Hall of Fame for his success with the Chorus; and

WHEREAS, Each of the members of the Spirit of Life Chorus is a volunteer; the Chorus is comprised of members from all over the Chicagoland area and practices at Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle; each year two of the concerts put on by the Spirit of Life Chorus are benefits and have raised in excess of $230,000 for worthwhile organizations, families, and individuals; and

WHEREAS, Two years ago the Chorus worked with the Des Plaines Veterans of Foreign War's Support the Troops program, raising money at each of their concerts; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate everyone involved with the Spirit of Life Chorus and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented the Spirit of Life Chorus Director, David Barth, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
