HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sue Helen Long, a 
4
longtime faithful member of Covenant Faith Church of God in 
5
Chicago, on her 100th birthday; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, Sue Helen Long celebrated her 100th birthday on 
7
January 2, 2010; she was born on that date in 1910 in Clemson, 
8
South Carolina; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, She is a community activist who has worked to 
10
beautify the community;
she has worked with the Cub Scouts as a 
11
den mother,
served on the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) 
12
board, and in the 1970s she was a missionary, visiting 17 
13
islands with her church; and
  
 
14
    WHEREAS, She is a founding member of the Covenant 
15
Faith/Emerald Avenue Church of God; she has served with the 
16
church for 73 years as a choir member, on the usher board,  and 
17
working with small children in the nursery; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, She is the mother of seven children, with five 
19
sons who served in the armed forces; and
  
 
20
    WHEREAS, Her home has always been open to people in need;

she is dearly loved by her church for her wisdom, insight, and 
2
humor; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
congratulate Sue Helen Long on the centennial of her birth and 
6
wish her continued good health and happiness; and be it further
  
 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to Sue Helen Long as a symbol of our respect and 
9
esteem.
