HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate George Zamp, World 
4
War II Army Veteran,  on being honored during the 8th Annual 
5
Mayfair Remembrance Day: Salute to American Heroes; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, George Zamp joined the United States Navy after 
7
high school graduation; he was assigned to the U.S.S. 
8
Casablanca and trained as a gunner; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Casablanca saw service in the Pacific 
10
Theater of Operations, serving under the command of Admiral 
11
Nimitz; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, George was honorably discharged in January of 
13
1946; he received the World War II Victory Medal, the 
14
Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, the American Campaign Medal, 
15
and the National Defense Medal; and
 
16
    WHEREAS, After leaving the service he worked for his 
17
brother at his gas station, then became a photo engraver for 
18
Superior Graphics; he was a member of the photoengraver's union 
19
for 32 years, as well as the Photoengravers Association of 
20
America, where he received the Certificate of Craftsmanship, 
21
its highest level of achievement; and

    WHEREAS, He continues to live near his birthplace, almost 
2
40 feet across the alley, and is a lifelong Mayfair resident; 
3
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6
congratulate George Zamp on this honor and thank him for his 
7
years of service to his country; and be it further
  
 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to George Zamp as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
