HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4
Aurora Latin American Club on the occasion of the club's 50th 
5
anniversary; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Aurora Latin American Club was formed on 
7
September 20, 1959 by Mexican-American citizens who migrated to 
8
Aurora from Texas during the 1950s-1970s in their search for 
9
the American Dream; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, The founders of the Aurora Latin American Club saw 
11
a need to establish a formal social network that would unite 
12
fellow Mexican-Americans as accepted members of a group with a 
13
shared language, traditions, and values; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, The Aurora Latin American Club helps its members 
15
develop skills critical for cross-cultural communications, 
16
tolerance for differences, trust and consensus-building, 
17
collaborative work habits, and the use of persistence and 
18
creativity to solve problems; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, The Aurora Latin American Club seeks to instill 
20
patriotism in its members through active involvement in the 
21
American political process; the organization has also had a

vision of Hispanics gaining the acknowledgement and respect of 
2
the citizens of the City of Aurora and the State of Illinois; 
3
and

    WHEREAS, The Aurora Latin American Club members' cultural 
5
traditions and activities promote Hispanic pride, education, 
6
and leadership for its members and their families, as well as 
7
increased civic and economic participation in the City of 
8
Aurora and the State of Illinois; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, The Aurora Latin American Club has helped 
10
establish patterns of importance in the lives of people from 
11
Mexican-American heritage and facilitated their assimilation 
12
and acculturation in Aurora, thus becoming an Aurora 
13
institution; therefore, be it

 
14
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
15
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
16
designate the date of September 20, 2009 as "Aurora Latin 
17
American Club 50th Anniversary Day" in the State of Illinois 
18
and congratulate the members of the Aurora Latin American Club 
19
on the occasion of the club's 50th anniversary; and be it 
20
further

 
21
    RESOLVED, That we ask the citizens of the State of Illinois 
22
to celebrate the many contributions that the Aurora Latin

American Club has given the people of the City of Aurora and

the State of Illinois; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

presented to the Aurora Latin American Club as a symbol of our
