HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Thomas Lowe of 
4
Crystal Lake on his induction into the Illinois Aviation Hall 
5
of Fame; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, He will be inducted into the Illinois Aviation 
7
Hall of Fame on June 3, 2009  in Peoria at the 2009 Illinois 
8
Aviation Conference; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, He is the co-founder of the National Stearman 
10
Fly-In, along with James "Jim" Leahy of Galesburg; the two men 
11
started the organization in 1972; the Boeing Stearman was a 
12
biplane used to train pilots during World War II; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, He began flying after his graduation from Iowa 
14
State University in 1963 and joined the United States Air 
15
Force; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, He owns two Stearman biplanes that he restored 
17
along with his wife, Nancy, including one of only four Stearman 
18
C3R Business Speedsters that still flies; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, He retired in 2001 as a captain with United 
20
Airlines after 33 1/2 years; he also worked part-time after his

retirement with Emery Air Charter in Rockford, so he could keep 
2
flying; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
congratulate Thomas Lowe on  his induction into the Illinois 
6
Aviation Hall of Fame and wish him the best in all his future 
7
endeavors; and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to Thomas Lowe as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
