HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation 
4
of the Weldon United Methodist Church on the occasion of the 
5
church's 100th anniversary on June 6, 2009; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The history of the Weldon United Methodist Church 
7
began on June 6, 1909, when the present church building was 
8
dedicated; the building's original cost was $14,500; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, As the Weldon United Methodist Church grew in 
10
membership, a new Education Wing was added and consecrated in 
11
1958; the addition provided offices for the pastors, several 
12
Sunday School classrooms, a nursery, a kitchenette, and a 
13
Fellowship room; other renovations the church has performed are 
14
the redecorating of the sanctuary, the modernization of the 
15
kitchen and dining hall, the addition of an elevator, a 
16
beautiful flower garden, and the hanging of portraits of former 
17
members, among other changes; and

    WHEREAS, In June of 1992, the church's membership grew once 
19
more when the congregation of the Shiloh church moved to the 
20
Weldon United Methodist Church after the closure of the Shiloh 
21
church; in 2000, another change was brought about with the 
22
formation of the group SALT, also known as the Salt Creek

Parish, which united the Farmer City, Weedman, and Weldon 
2
churches; and

 
3
    WHEREAS, In addition to the church's regular services, the 
4
Weldon United Methodist Church also holds many special events, 
5
including Bible studies, special speakers, musical groups, the 
6
M & M (Mission and Me) Club, an after-school program, and IYF 
7
for youth; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, The congregation of the Weldon United Methodist 
9
Church will celebrate the church's 100th anniversary on June 
10
14, 2009 with a worship service, special music, and a potluck 
11
dinner; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
14
congratulate the congregation of the Weldon United Methodist 
15
Church on the occasion of the church's 100th anniversary and 
16
wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be 
17
it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19
presented to the Weldon United Methodist Church as a symbol of 
20
our esteem and respect.
