| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff and | ||||||
| 4 | administration of The Hope Center in Albion on the occasion of | ||||||
| 5 | being selected as a 2008 Governor's Home Town Award winner; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Governor's Home Town Awards are given to | ||||||
| 7 | recognize individuals and groups that unselfishly give to | ||||||
| 8 | others in order to make their communities better and stronger, | ||||||
| 9 | instill pride in their neighborhoods, and improve the overall | ||||||
| 10 | quality of life; after a rigorous judging process of reviewing | ||||||
| 11 | and ranking applications based on local need, volunteer | ||||||
| 12 | participation, project continuity, and results, only 49 | ||||||
| 13 | projects were selected as Governor's Home Town Award winners; | ||||||
| 14 | and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The Hope Center in Albion is a Christian resource | ||||||
| 16 | center that is operated by volunteers and is supported by | ||||||
| 17 | community donations; with many rural Americans facing | ||||||
| 18 | challenges in getting needed services, the volunteers of the | ||||||
| 19 | Hope Center saw a need in their community; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The Hope Center's main building was bought by the | ||||||
| 21 | Smith family, who originally had the idea of starting a teen | ||||||
| 22 | center there; the center's goals, however, soon grew to more | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | comprehensive community services; today, the center provides | ||||||
| 2 | food, clothing, household items, education, and pregnancy | ||||||
| 3 | counseling services to those in need, among many other | ||||||
| 4 | services; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Hope Center has over 50 families involved in | ||||||
| 6 | their Beacon of Hope Mentoring program, a program for children | ||||||
| 7 | in White, Wayne, and Edwards Counties whose parent or parents | ||||||
| 8 | are incarcerated; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Hope Center also collects new and good used | ||||||
| 10 | toys for the Feed the Family program, which will provide | ||||||
| 11 | Christmas food and toys for over 70 area families; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Hope Center's message of charity and | ||||||
| 13 | compassion is worthy of the greatest respect of both this | ||||||
| 14 | august body and the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, | ||||||
| 15 | be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 18 | congratulate the staff and administration of The Hope Center in | ||||||
| 19 | Albion for winning a 2008 Governor's Home Town Award and wish | ||||||
| 20 | them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | ||||||
| 21 | further
