110 ILCS 49/25 new











     Amends the Higher Education Veterans Service Act. Provides that within one year after returning from deployment, a veteran of the armed forces who (i) was enrolled at a public college or university within one year prior to deployment, (ii) has returned from that deployment, and (iii) is seeking re-enrollment at that public college or university must be granted preference for re-enrollment by the public college or university and be reinstated as soon as possible during the current or next academic semester. Effective immediately.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Higher Education Veterans Service Act is

amended  by adding Section 25 as follows:

    (110 ILCS 49/25 new)

    Sec. 25. Re-enrollment preference; public universities.

Within one year after returning from deployment, a veteran of 
9
the armed forces who (i) was enrolled at a public college or 
10
university within one year prior to deployment, (ii) has 
11
returned from that deployment, and (iii) is seeking 
12
re-enrollment at that public college or university must be 
13
granted preference for re-enrollment by the public college or 
14
university and be reinstated as soon as possible during the 
15
current or next academic semester.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
17
becoming law.
