| AN ACT concerning government.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Open Meetings Act is amended by adding |
| 5 |
| Section 8 as follows:
|

| (5 ILCS 120/8 new) |
| 7 |
| Sec. 8. Cancellation of meeting. |
| 8 |
| (a) A regularly scheduled meeting of a public body or a |
| 9 |
| meeting called by the presiding officer of the public body may |
| 10 |
| be cancelled by the presiding officer of that public body due |
| 11 |
| to lack of a quorum of public body members. |
| 12 |
| (b) A special meeting of a public body called by a majority |
| 13 |
| of the members of that public body may be cancelled by a |
| 14 |
| majority of the members who called the meeting due to lack of a |
| 15 |
| quorum of public body members or for any other reason. |
| 16 |
| (c) A committee meeting of a public body may be cancelled |
| 17 |
| by the chairperson or co-chairpersons of the committee due to |
| 18 |
| lack of a quorum of committee members. |
| 19 |
| (d) Cancellation of a meeting under this Section requires |
| 20 |
| notice by the person or persons cancelling that meeting to all |
| 21 |
| scheduled attendees, the public through the posting of notices |
| 22 |
| throughout the principal office of the public body, and news |
| 23 |
| media that have filed annual requests under this Act. |
