| AN ACT concerning elections.
|
| 2 |
| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 |
| Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 |
| 25-8 as follows:
|
| 6 |
| (10 ILCS 5/25-8) (from Ch. 46, par. 25-8)

| Sec. 25-8. U.S. Senator. |
| 8 |
| (a) When a vacancy shall occur in the office of United |
| 9 |
| States
Senator from this state, the Governor shall make |
| 10 |
| temporary appointment, subject to subsection (b), to
fill such |
| 11 |
| vacancy until the next election of representatives in Congress,
|
| 12 |
| at which time such vacancy shall be filled by election, and the |
| 13 |
| senator so
elected shall take office as soon thereafter as he |
| 14 |
| shall receive his
certificate of election.
|
| 15 |
| (b) An appointment under subsection (a) is subject to |
| 16 |
| approval by a majority vote of a commission consisting of the |
| 17 |
| President and Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker and |
| 18 |
| Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, and 16 members |
| 19 |
| appointed 4 each by those legislative leaders. |
