| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |

| represented in the General Assembly:

| Section 5. The Local Governmental and Governmental |

| Employees Tort
Immunity Act is amended by changing Section |

| 1-101.1 as follows:

| Sec. 1-101.1.
(a) The
The purpose of this Act is to protect |

| local public
entities and public employees from liability |
| 10 |
| arising from the operation of
government. It grants only |
| 11 |
| immunities and defenses. |
| 12 |
| (b) Any defense or immunity, common law or statutory, |
| 13 |
| available to any
private person shall likewise be available to |
| 14 |
| local public entities and
public employees.
