| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
| 5 |
| Section 12-803 as follows:
|

| (625 ILCS 5/12-803) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-803)

| Sec. 12-803.
(a) Each school bus shall be equipped with a |
| 8 |
| stop signal
arm on the
the driver's side of the school bus that |
| 9 |
| may be operated either manually
or mechanically. For each |
| 10 |
| school bus manufactured on and after September 1,
1992, the |
| 11 |
| stop signal arm shall be an octagon shaped semaphore that |
| 12 |
| conforms to
49 C.F.R. 571.131, "SCHOOL BUS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY |
| 13 |
| DEVICES", S5.1 through S5.5. |
| 14 |
| (b) Each school bus manufactured prior to September 1, 1992 |
| 15 |
| shall be
equipped with a stop signal arm that conforms to |
| 16 |
| standards promulgated by the
Department.
