SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mattie Hines, who passed away on January 2, 2009; and

WHEREAS, She was born on June 3, 1917 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Lula Mae and Willie Palmer; and

WHEREAS, She was a graduate of Western High School in Owensboro, Kentucky; she later attended Kentucky State College where she met and married William Atwood; she later married Isaac Hines; she moved to Chicago in 1936 and worked at Jones and Jones Drug Store for many years; and

WHEREAS, She was loved by all who met her; she found beauty and goodness in everyone and had a positive outlook on life; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isaac; her sisters, Irene Koker, Catherine Palmer, Ruth Helen Palmer, Georgella Williams, and Jamesetta Spencer; and her brothers, Alfred Palmer and John Palmer; and

WHEREAS, Mattie Hines is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn (Atwood) Butler; her grandchildren, Valerie (Don Newbern) Butler-Newbern and Richard Eugene (Robin) Butler III; her great-grandchildren, Tiffany Gwen Newbern, Brent Newbern, Richard Eugene Butler IV, Rena Butler, Raiven Butler, and Randyll Butler; her brother, Clay Palmer; her nephew, Tashonn Antinori; her extended family, Lee Sewell, Ida "Pres" Preston, the Bonds, and Barbara (Doll) Newbern; and her special friends that were as close as family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mattie Hines; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mattie Hines as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
