| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Charles Hoekstra of Antioch, who passed |
| 4 |
| away on September 22, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born August 20, 1919 in Irnsum, Holland, |
| 6 |
| Netherlands, the son of the late Fred and Jennie (Coenradie) |
| 7 |
| Hoekstra, moving to the United States in the 1920s; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He grew up on the family farm in Newport Township, |
| 9 |
| moved to Waukegan, and settled in Antioch in 1943; on June 22, |
| 10 |
| 1944 he married Elsie DeBoer in Waukegan; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Before his retirement in 1984, Charles worked for |
| 12 |
| many years as a paint prep man at Streeter Amet in Grayslake, |
| 13 |
| and worked a farm in the Grayslake area; he was a very hard |
| 14 |
| worker who enjoyed gardening, passing out his vegetables to his |
| 15 |
| friends, and attending the VFW Post #4308 in Lake Villa; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; his |
| 17 |
| parents; and four sisters, Kay, Veronica, Johanna, and Cybil; |
| 18 |
| and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Charles Hoekstra is survived by his daughter, |
| 20 |
| Diana (Robert) Binkley; his two grandchildren, Rhonda and |
