| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Evelyn M. Turner of Lindenhurst, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on September 26, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on May 4, 1921 in Chicago; she |
| 6 |
| graduated from Rockford College and served in World War II; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, She became known as "the dime-store lady" after |
| 8 |
| running the Grayslake Five and Dime with her friend, Winnie |
| 9 |
| Manuel; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She was an active member and supporter of |
| 11 |
| Grayslake United Protestant Church; her varied interest led her |
| 12 |
| to support educational institutions, various conservation |
| 13 |
| organizations, local "people oriented" organizations, and |
| 14 |
| Grayslake Historical Society; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her father, John; her |
| 16 |
| mother, Elsie; her brother, John; and her good friend, Winnie |
| 17 |
| Manuel; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, She is survived by many good and close friends; |
