| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to extend |
| 3 |
| their sincere condolences to our colleague and friend, Senator |
| 4 |
| Donne Trotter, upon hearing of the news of his mother's |
| 5 |
| passing; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Carita Nancy Louise Trotter was born February 16, |
| 7 |
| 1924 in Olmsted; she was raised in Cairo by her grandmother |
| 8 |
| Louise Caldwell, a music teacher at the local high school; it |
| 9 |
| was under her grandmother's tutelage that she gained an |
| 10 |
| appreciation for music and became an accomplished pianist and a |
| 11 |
| gifted vocalist; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Carita graduated from Lane College, a |
| 13 |
| historically black college in Jackson, Tennessee, where she was |
| 14 |
| crowned "Miss Lane College", pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha |
| 15 |
| sorority, and was a member of the "Dragonettes", a traveling |
| 16 |
| choral group; she was also active in numerous clubs and other |
| 17 |
| organizations; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, After graduation, Carita taught elementary school |
| 19 |
| before working at the Department of Health, Education, and |
| 20 |
| Welfare; she honorably retired with 34 years of government |
| 21 |
| service; and she was a dedicated servant of the Lord; while |
| 22 |
| attending a church revival, Carita caught the eye of James |
|

| Trotter, the son of Reverend W. C. Trotter; they courted and |
| 2 |
| were united in marriage, November 25, 1946, and to this union, |
| 3 |
| three precious children were born: Darryl, Donne, and Jakita; |
| 4 |
| Carita praised the Lord in a ministry of music as the organist |
| 5 |
| and pianist at her father-in-law's church; a few of her |
| 6 |
| favorite songs were "Open Our Eyes, Precious Lord" and "Goin' |
| 7 |
| Up Yonder"; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Carita was totally dedicated to her family first |
| 9 |
| and foremost, though her passion for the Chicago Bull's |
| 10 |
| basketball team came a close second; she often joked that she |
| 11 |
| did not enjoy cooking, but the family shares memories of her |
| 12 |
| culinary skills; there are also memories of her toiling over an |
| 13 |
| ironing board to perfectly starch and iron her sons' shirts |
| 14 |
| until they could practically stand by themselves and memories |
| 15 |
| of the fun and engaging bridge club parties she had with her |
| 16 |
| girlfriends; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Her greatest gifts were her generous spirit, |
| 18 |
| compassion, integrity, and quiet strength;
Carita's mother, |
| 19 |
| Bertha Moss, 102 years young, resides in Toledo, Ohio; and |
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her loving |
| 21 |
| sister-in-law, Jessye; her half sister, Barbara; and her |
| 22 |
| beloved husband, James; and |
|

| WHEREAS, The passing of Carita Trotter will be deeply felt |
| 2 |
| by her mother, Bertha; her children, Darryl, Illinois State |
| 3 |
| Senator Donne Trotter, and Jakita; her grandchildren Carlotta, |
| 4 |
| Darryl Jr., Natatia, and Elijah; her seven |
| 5 |
| great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends; |
| 6 |
| therefore, be it
|
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
| 8 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 9 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Carita Trotter; and be |
| 10 |
| it further
|
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 12 |
| presented to the family of Carita Trotter as a symbol of our |
| 13 |
| sincere sympathy.
