| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Mary K. McCloskey of Alton, who passed |
| 4 |
| away on January 13, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born February 11, 1909, in Marion, |
| 6 |
| Indiana, and raised in New Castle, Indiana, by her parents |
| 7 |
| Felix and Nola (Brown) Peckinpaugh; she attended Iowa State |
| 8 |
| University, where she joined Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated |
| 9 |
| with a master's degree in education; following graduation, she |
| 10 |
| taught home economics in South Bend, Indiana; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, She married Dr. James D. McCloskey; after he |
| 12 |
| completed medical residency at the University of Iowa, they |
| 13 |
| moved to Alton where Dr. McCloskey was a noted ENT surgeon and |
| 14 |
| she became an enthusiastic community volunteer; she was active |
| 15 |
| in St. Joseph Hospital and Madison County Medical Society |
| 16 |
| auxiliaries, League of Women Voters, American Association of |
| 17 |
| University Women, and Zonta International; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, She taught emergency mass feeding classes for the |
| 19 |
| American Red Cross, volunteered at her children's schools, and |
| 20 |
| led Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops; after the passing of her |
| 21 |
| husband in 1963, she returned to the work force as a social |
| 22 |
| worker for the State of Illinois; she rose to supervisory |
