 |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  | 
| 3 | 
 | learn of the death of former Illinois Senate doorkeeper Edward  | 
| 4 | 
 | H. Bell of Springfield, who passed away on April 24, 2008; and
   | 
| 5 | 
 |     WHEREAS, Edward H. Bell was born May 20, 1949, the son of  | 
| 6 | 
 | Archibald and Mary Bell, in Glasgow, Scotland; he immigrated to  | 
| 7 | 
 | the United States in 1964 to live with his aunt and uncle in  | 
| 8 | 
 | Springfield; and
   | 
| 9 | 
 |     WHEREAS, After serving in Vietnam, he returned to  | 
| 10 | 
 | Springfield to attend Lincoln Land Community College, where he  | 
| 11 | 
 | met Sabra Martin; Sabra and Ed were married August 12, 1972, in  | 
| 12 | 
 | Mason City; they had two daughters, Katrina Marie and Laura  | 
| 13 | 
 | Anne; and
   | 
| 14 | 
 |     WHEREAS, Ed was a Springfield Police officer for 27 years,  | 
| 15 | 
 | retiring as a sergeant in 2003; shortly after retiring, he  | 
| 16 | 
 | became a doorkeeper at the Illinois State Senate; he was also a  | 
| 17 | 
 | karate instructor with the Kifaru School of Martial Arts and  | 
| 18 | 
 | was an avid hunter of deer and turkey; Ed also enjoyed  | 
| 19 | 
 | collecting and planting day lilies, riding his motorcycle, and  | 
| 20 | 
 | was a bass drummer in the Springfield Highland Guard; and
  
 | 
| 21 | 
 |     WHEREAS, Edward Bell is survived by wife, Sabra, and two  |
