SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence Hays of Bethalto, who passed away on April 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Hays was born on January 10, 1919 in Datto, Arkansas; he was the son of John and Hattie (Denton) Hays; he married the former Iva Lucille Wall in Paragon, Arkansas in 1944; she preceded him in death on September 13, 1974; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Hays served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Army during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Hays was an employee of AmerenUE as a lineman for 30 years before his retirement in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Hays was a member of the Bethalto Assembly of God Church for several years and attended Cottage Hills Baptist Church; he was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308 in Alton and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; he was a past member of the Wood River Moose Lodge and was very active with the Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Hays was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his son, Kenneth Burnett; his sister, Elsie; and his four brothers, Charlie, William, Vess, and Jess; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Hays is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William and Elsie Hays; his daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Walkington and Glenda and Don Boan; his grandchildren and their spouses, Scotty and Missy Borror, Chris and Michelle Borror, and Todd Hays; his five great-grandchildren; his brother, Don Hays; and his daughter-in-law, Mary Burnett; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Clarence Hays; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clarence Hays as an expression of our sympathy.
