| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of George Robert Archdale of Waukegan, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on March 6, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born March 27, 1917 in Waukegan and |
| 6 |
| remained
a lifelong resident; he was a member of St. Dismas |
| 7 |
| Church in Waukegan; he attended St. Joseph's School before |
| 8 |
| joining the United States Navy and trained at Great Lakes in |
| 9 |
| 1941; during World War II he served on the USS Manila Bay until |
| 10 |
| his Honorable Discharge in 1945; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He returned to Waukegan to become a business |
| 12 |
| partner with his brother Ted at Ted's Tavern; on September 21, |
| 13 |
| 1946 he married Gloria
Palmer; in 1955 he opened Archdale's |
| 14 |
| Restaurant, a Waukegan landmark, which he owned and operated |
| 15 |
| for over 30 years; after selling Archdale's in 1979 he went to |
| 16 |
| Tucson, Arizona where he received his GED, returned to Lake |
| 17 |
| County, and received his Associates Degree in real estate sales |
| 18 |
| from the College of Lake County; after receiving his license he |
| 19 |
| went to work at Kucera Realty in Waukegan; he also worked as a |
| 20 |
| bartender at Bertrand's Bowling Lanes in Waukegan; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, He was a community leader who belonged to Knights |
| 22 |
| of Columbus Waukegan Council 731, where he was a 3rd Degree; he |

| was a lifetime member of the Waukegan Exchange Club; he was |
| 2 |
| past president of the Lake County Tavern Owner's Association |
| 3 |
| for 4 years; and he was a member of the draft board, American |
| 4 |
| Legion Post 281 for over 60 years; he was active in the |
| 5 |
| American Alzheimer's Association and spent time with other |
| 6 |
| Alzheimer's residents; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, George Archdale was preceded in death by his wife, |
| 8 |
| Gloria; his parents, Walter and Anna (nee Bomkamp) Archdale; |
| 9 |
| his brothers, Theodore and Walter Archdale; and his sister, |
| 10 |
| Mary Archdale; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, George Archdale is survived by his son, Robert |
| 12 |
| (Sandra) Archdale; his sister, Virginia Gould; his niece and |
| 13 |
| nephews, Carol Butkus, Raymond Butkus, and Phillip (Judy) |
| 14 |
| Archdale; his great-nieces and nephew, Tammy, Kathy, and Ted; |
| 15 |
| his special cousin, Robert Nimsgern; his other loving |
| 16 |
| relatives, Lucille Walters, Donna Hairell, Jane Mason, Kent |
| 17 |
| Smith, and Nancy Stehno; and his dear cat, Gizmo; therefore, be |
| 18 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 21 |
| his family and friends, the passing of George Robert Archdale; |
