SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3
learn of the death of
Thomas Ross Hughes, Ph.D.,  of 
4
Collinsville, formerly of Granite City, who passed away on 
5
January 1, 2008; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes was born March 11, 1940 in Granite 
7
City; his parents were Clyde G. and Rose (Taylor) Hughes; he 
8
married the former Susan Miller on August 28, 1986 in 
9
Edwardsville; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes served as a professor at Southern 
11
Illinois University Edwardsville from 1969 until 1986; he 
12
retired as professor emeritus in 1998; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes was the recipient of national awards 
14
in the area of juvenile delinquency in 1979 and 2000; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes was preceded in death by his 
16
parents; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes is survived by his wife, Susan; his 
18
daughters, Alicia (David) Hayek and Jaime (Bart) Smith; his 
19
sister, Marion (David) Hughes Coppage; and his grandchildren, 
20
Ella Rose, Ava Fran, Samantha Noelle, Stella Rose, and Sara

    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
3
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
4
his family and friends, the passing of Thomas Hughes; and be it 
5
further

 
6
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
presented to the family of Thomas Hughes as an expression of 
8
our sympathy.
