SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nellie Nettles of Chicago, who passed away on December 9, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Nellie Nettles was born on February 21, 1928 in Flint, Michigan; her parents were James and Jeffie Lee Carpenter; she married Harry Nettles Jr. in 1950; and

WHEREAS, Nellie Nettles confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age; she graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1946; she moved to Chicago in 1948; and

WHEREAS, Nellie Nettles was an active member of Maryland Avenue Baptist Church, remaining there until she became ill; and

WHEREAS, Nellie Nettles was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nettles Jr.; her parents; her brothers, Brady Carpenter, Samuel Carpenter, Lorenda Carpenter, Otis Carpenter, Flavis Carpenter, Richard Carpenter, and Eulis Carpenter; her sisters, Rachael Carpenter-Mason and Idabell Carpenter; her nephews, James "Butch" Alden Carpenter and Stevie Carpenter; and her niece, Brenda Carpenter; and

WHEREAS, Nellie Nettles is survived by her daughter, Carol (Philip) Washington; her grandchildren, Philip Washington Jr., Crystal (RT) Rankin, Jonathan Washington, and Justin Washington; her great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Washington, Ryan Rankin, and Cailyn Rankin; her sister-in-law, Arie Lee Carpenter; her nephews, Kenneth Scott, Leroy Scott, Brian Carpenter, Waynard Carpenter, and Paul Carpenter; her nieces, Tonya Scott, Cheryl Carpenter-Perry, Rhonda Simmons, and Brenna Carpenter; and her many great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Nellie Nettles; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nellie Nettles as an expression of our sympathy.
