| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
James V. McCabe of Creal Springs, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on August 18, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, James V. McCabe was born on March 5, 1917, near |
| 6 |
| Stonefort; he was the second son of James M. and Mary E. (Van |
| 7 |
| Dyke) McCabe; he married Mary Bryant on February 18, 1948; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, James V. McCabe spent his early years in the |
| 9 |
| trucking industry and road construction; he was inducted into |
| 10 |
| the U.S. Army on March 4, 1943 and served in the European |
| 11 |
| theater during the Second World War for 23 months in the 10th |
| 12 |
| Tank Battalion, serving in Normandy, Northern France, |
| 13 |
| Rhineland, Ardennes, and throughout central Europe; during his |
| 14 |
| stint, he was seriously injured in the Battle of the Bulge and |
| 15 |
| was awarded the Purple Heart; he also was awarded five Campaign |
| 16 |
| Stars, three Overseas Service Bars, and the Good Conduct Medal, |
| 17 |
| as well as having no time lost under AW 107; he was discharged |
| 18 |
| on Nov. 3, 1945 from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin; after serving his |
| 19 |
| country, he returned to road and bridge construction, where he |
| 20 |
| worked in Illinois and neighboring states; he continued his |
| 21 |
| career for 42 years, until his retirement; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, James V. McCabe was preceded in death by his |
