SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Les Carl of Canton, who passed away on July 27, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Les Carl was born on June 20, 1937, in Hominy, Oklahoma; his parents were Oliver and Ruby (Spears) Carl; he married Anita Flint on April 17, 1958 in Rapid City, South Dakota; and

WHEREAS, Les Carl served in the U.S. Air Force for five years; he served as vice president of Canton State Bank from 1965 until its closing; he retired from MidAmerica National Bank in Canton in 2000, where he served as vice president; and

WHEREAS, Les Carl was involved in numerous community organizations; he was a Canton alderman, serving the people of Ward 3 on the Canton City Council from 1977 to 1984; he ran again in 2002 and was elected; He was re-elected in 2006; he served as chairman of the city council's Finance Committee; his letter of resignation was accepted during a city council meeting on July 3, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Les Carl was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and enjoyed his Harley motorcycle; he was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton; and

WHEREAS, Les Carl was preceded in death by his father; and his son, Darrell Carl; and

WHEREAS, Les Carl is survived by his mother; his son, Jason Carl; his daughters, Renee Carl and Ronda (Steve) Beekman; his brother, Sonny Carl; his sister, JoAnn (Hugh) Hodges; his grandchildren, Rory Carl, Dawn (Matt) Winhold, Nathan Carl and Michael Carl; and his extended family, Eric and Genie Beekman and family Luke, Jake, and Kaylann, and Amy and Paul Reynolds and family Chloe, Hailey and Steve; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Les Carl; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Les Carl as an expression of our sympathy.
