SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3
learn of the death of
Rufus Williams Sr. of Chicago, who passed 
4
away on July 16, 2007; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Rufus Williams Sr. was born in 1928 in Rayville, 
6
Louisiana; he married Dicye Williams in 1951; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, Rufus Williams Sr. worked at the Sun Chemical 
8
Corporation for 35 years until his retirement in 1992; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, Rufus Williams Sr. was very active in church 
10
activities; he was a member of the Greater Garfield Park 
11
Missionary Baptist Church for 56 years, where he served as 
12
deacon and trustee for the church and founded its usher board; 
13
and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Despite his work and church related activities, 
15
Rufus Williams Sr. always made time to be with his children, 
16
teaching them "cut-throat" dominoes and his views on the 
17
importance of education in their lives; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Rufus Williams Sr. is survived by his children, 
19
Rufus, Carol, Leroy, Virginia Lewis, and Delores Williams; and 
20
his 11 grandchildren; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
2
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
3
his family and friends, the passing of Rufus Williams Sr.; and 
4
be it further

 
5
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6
presented to the family of Rufus Williams Sr. as an expression 
7
of our sympathy.
