| WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is recognized for |
| 3 |
| its outstanding dedication and service in the completion, |
| 4 |
| maintenance, and continuing development of Rend Lake, located |
| 5 |
| in Franklin and Jefferson counties in the State of Illinois; |
| 6 |
| and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Retired U.S. Congressman Kenneth J. Gray is hereby |
| 8 |
| recognized in appreciation for his tireless and successful |
| 9 |
| efforts in securing the authorization of appropriations for the |
| 10 |
| construction of Rend Lake; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Rend Lake, the second largest inland impoundment |
| 12 |
| in Illinois, covers 18,900 acres with 162 miles of shoreline |
| 13 |
| and serves as a source of water, flood control protection, |
| 14 |
| recreation, fish and wildlife conversation, and assurance of |
| 15 |
| downstream water quality; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, On April 30, 2007, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich and |
| 17 |
| the
Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity |
| 18 |
| Bureau of Tourism announced that Rend Lake had been chosen by |
| 19 |
| consumers as one of "The Seven Wonders of Illinois" in a |
| 20 |
| contest launched at the 2007 Illinois Governor's Conference on |
| 21 |
