| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Victor Markiewicz of Lemont, who passed |
| 4 |
| away on May 25, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Victor Markiewicz was born in Lemont; he graduated |
| 6 |
| from Lemont High School in 1966 and Worsham College of Mortuary |
| 7 |
| Science in Wheeling three years later; he became the third |
| 8 |
| generation of the Markiewicz family to run the Markiewicz |
| 9 |
| Funeral Home in Lemont, which he ran for 30 years; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Victor Markiewicz was an avid sportsman and |
| 11 |
| community leader; he was active in several area clubs and was a |
| 12 |
| major force behind the drive to improve Lemont's Main Street in |
| 13 |
| the late 1980s; during the 1970s and 1980s, he served as a high |
| 14 |
| school basketball official and baseball umpire; in the 1990s, |
| 15 |
| he provided play-by-play for football, basketball, and |
| 16 |
| volleyball games on Lemont Community TV, and did the same later |
| 17 |
| for Will County Channel 6; the broadcasts were strictly |
| 18 |
| volunteer based, but Mr. Markiewicz approached each game like a |
| 19 |
| professional, with his passion and outgoing nature making the |
| 20 |
| games a joy for everyone; he was active at Sts. Cyril & |
| 21 |
| Methodius Catholic Church in Lemont, where he helped out as |
| 22 |
| Eucharistic minister, lector, usher, and past president of the |
| 23 |
| Parish Pastoral Council; and
