SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Everett Hugh Collins of Benton, who passed away on March 8, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Everett Collins was born June 8, 1923, in Mount Vernon, the son of Everett Hugh Collins Sr. and Alice (Bean) Collins; he married the former Evelyn Wootton on November 14, 1942, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2000; he later married the former Jean Gregory on January 25, 2003; and

WHEREAS, He was co-owner with Clarence Barton of Barton and Collins Furniture Store in Benton, which operated for more than 50 years; and

WHEREAS, He was an active member of the community, a 50-year member of the Benton Kiwanis club and an active member of the First Christian Church in Benton; he was also a member of Gideons International and active in the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the Benton Ministerial Alliance; he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Corps as a radio technician; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and his infant sister; and

WHEREAS, Everett Collins is survived by his wife, Jean Collins; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. and Gale Neal; his son and daughter-in-law, Don Cary and Kimberly Collins; his grandchildren, Lorrie Cynowa and husband, Rob, Richard Van Neal, Laura A. Collins and husband, and Cary Hugh; his sister and brother-in-law, June and William Carroll; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Everett Hugh Collins; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Everett Collins as a symbol of our sympathy.
