SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eddie Stewart who passed away on December 6, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Stewart was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 9, 1917; his parents were George Stewart and Virena Smith; and

WHEREAS, In 1949 Eddie Stewart and Nancy Stewart were married in New Orleans, Louisiana; upon moving to Chicago, Eddie Stewart worked for the A to Z equipment Company as the parts and service manager until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Stewart played baseball for the Negro Baseball League with the Kansas City Monarchs; his love of the game was passed down to his son, Gerald, and was evident in the baseball cap that Mr. Stewart always wore; he is remembered for supporting and cheering for the team and providing food for the players regardless of the outcome of the game; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Stewart loved baseball and more baseball, drumsticks (or "hips"), mashed and sweet potatoes, root beer floats, buddy, his great-granddaughters, and washing his car; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Stewart leaves to cherish his life his son, Gerald (Cynthia); his grandchildren, Eddie III, Yolanda (Mike), Gerald II, Jasmine, and Dominique; his great-grandchildren, Michelle and JaNya; his nieces, Barbara and Ann; his nephew, Freddie; his adopted sons, especially James Robinson; and his many neighbors and friends; he was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; his sister, Lillie; his children, Eddie Jr., and Annette; and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Eddie Stewart; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eddie Stewart as an expression of our sympathy.
