AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1446

    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1446 as follows:

on page 1, line 15, by replacing "$25,000,000" with 
4
"$15,000,000 or less"; and

on page 1, lines 17 and 18, by replacing "The State Board may 
6
decide to disburse no less than half of" with "If the State 
7
Board decides to disburse"; and

on page 1, line 19, after "Initiative", by inserting ", then it 
9
must disburse no less than half of the funds appropriated"; and
 
10
on page 2, immediately below line 1, by inserting the 
11
following:

    "(c) Funds for the We Want to Learn English Initiative may 
13
be used only to provide programs that teach English to  United 
14
States citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other persons 
15
residing in this State who are in lawful immigration status.";
