HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 
3
State of Illinois wish to congratulate State Representative 
4
Kurt Granberg on his retirement after 22 years of service in 
5
the House; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Kurt Granberg was first elected to the Illinois 
7
House of Representatives in 1986; he was appointed House Floor 
8
Leader in 1992, was named Assistant Democratic Leader in 1994 
9
and Assistant Majority Leader in 1997; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Representative Granberg has been a tireless 
11
advocate for 107th District residents; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Along with Representative Granberg's work to 
13
bring a coal gasification plant to Southern Illinois, showing 
14
his commitment to improving the region's economy and his 
15
determination to create jobs in Illinois, the Carlyle Democrat 
16
also helped create the Southeastern Illinois Economic 
17
Development Authority (SIEDA), a $250 million dollar economic 
18
engine that helps with investment and job creation in the 
19
region; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Representative Granberg is known throughout the 
21
Capitol as a fighter for working men and women; in 2005

Representative Granberg served as a  lead negotiator to reform 
2
the outdated workers' compensation system, ensuring that both 
3
employers and employees are treated fairly, reducing fraud and 
4
improving benefits; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Representative Granberg consistently carried the 
6
voices of those who needed help to the State Capitol; he helped 
7
secure State funding for the Amy Center, a child advocacy 
8
center for those who have been abused; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, State Representative Kurt Granberg has served his 
10
constituents with distinction and will be missed by his 
11
colleagues; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14
congratulate Kurt Granberg on his retirement from the Illinois 
15
House of Representatives; and be it further

 
16
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to State Representative Kurt Granberg as a token of 
18
our respect and esteem and with our best wishes for his future 
19
success.
