HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the coaches and players of the Eastland Cougars girls volleyball team on the occasion of the team's victory in the Class A IHSA Volleyball Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Eastland Cougars girls volleyball team defeated the Ashland (A-C Central) Lady Knights in the championship match at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena with a 2-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-23) victory, ending their season with an impressive 37-3 record; the victory gave Eastland its first sports State championship in the school's history, as well as a school record for wins with 39; the team also won a sectional for the first time in four years during the 2008 season; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Eastland Cougars girls volleyball team are Bricelynn Myers, Karissa Pierce, Kaitlyn Bissell, Damaris Linker, Kerby Kniss, Logan Feltmeyer, Sidney Kane, Abbie Hare, Hope Linker, Carissa Gruhn, Katelyn Dickman, Ashley Larak, Katelyn Hasken, Megan Bunyer, Courtney Blair, and Taylor Heeren; the team's head coach is Kristy Pierce and the assistant coaches are Jessica Handel and Jim Pierce; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Eastland Cougars girls volleyball team serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the coaches and players of the Eastland Cougars girls volleyball team on the occasion of the team's victory in the Class A IHSA Volleyball Championship and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kristy Pierce, head coach of the Eastland Cougars girls volleyball team, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
