HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation 
4
of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Galena on the occasion of 
5
the church's 150th anniversary; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church was 
7
first organized on September 21, 1858, when Pastor John 
8
Klindworth helped a group of German settlers establish a new 
9
church in Galena; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, The congregation of the St. Matthew's Evangelical 
11
Lutheran Church will celebrate the 150th anniversary of their 
12
beloved church on September 21, 2008 with a festive worship 
13
service in the morning, comprised of portions of liturgies used 
14
at St. Matthew Lutheran Church through the years, and a 
15
German-fare dinner in the evening; the church will also 
16
dedicate a new remodeled chancel area of the church and a new, 
17
free-standing altar, which was crafted by members of the church 
18
from the wood of the pulpit; and


 
19
    WHEREAS, The St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church 
20
serves as a model of piety, charity, and community involvement 
21
for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
congratulate the congregation of the St. Matthew Lutheran 
4
Church in Galena on the occasion of the church's 150th 
5
anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in 
6
the future; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church as a symbol of our 
9
esteem and respect.
