HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to thank Phil Lawler for his many years of service and dedication to the promotion of physical fitness and health; and

WHEREAS, Phil Lawler has been the PE4LIFE Director of Instruction and Outreach since 2001; he has also been the Director of the PE4 Life Academy at Madison Junior High School in Naperville; and

WHEREAS, Phil Lawler retired as a physical education teacher after 34 years of teaching; he has earned many awards in his field, including receiving the Illinois Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year and the Naperville School District 203 Teacher of the Year; he was named a member of the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches' Hall of Fame and a member of the USA Today First Team All-American Teaching Team; he has trained nearly 700 physical educators, school administrators, and community leaders from several states and foreign countries in the concepts and methods of the "New Physical Education"; and he has promoted quality health-and-wellness-based physical education programs by hosting more than 150 visiting school districts and communities across the United States; and

WHEREAS, He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, the Washington Post, and numerous television special reports; he coordinates an annual physical education conference in DuPage County that draws more than 1500 teachers and features over 50 speakers; and

WHEREAS, He has been featured, along with the Madison Junior High School PE4Life program, in the documentary "Super Size Me"; he is a respected expert in his field, sought out for his advice and council by researchers and medical professionals, as well as educators; and he has testified in the State legislature and in Washington, D.C. on health and wellness issues; and

WHEREAS, He has worked tirelessly in promoting quality physical education and is an accomplished and dedicated advocate for physical education and health wellness; he is a mentor, motivator, and visionary in his field, whose passion and dedication to PE4Life and to quality physical education programs is evident to everyone with whom he comes into contact; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Phil Lawler for his dedication to the health of others, especially the children of the State of Illinois; and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Phil Lawler as a symbol of our sincere respect.
