| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Edward E. Hahn on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of the celebration of his 100th birthday; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Edward E. Hahn was born on November 30, 1908 in | ||||||
| 6 | Jasper County; he is the son of Samuel and Katherine Schmidt | ||||||
| 7 | Hahn; he continued to live on his family's farm until his | ||||||
| 8 | retirement in 1970, when he and his wife moved to Ste. Marie; | ||||||
| 9 | they have traveled to nearly all 50 states since their | ||||||
| 10 | retirement; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Edward E. Hahn was the oldest of 4 children; he | ||||||
| 12 | married Angela Spitzer in 1938; together, they have two | ||||||
| 13 | daughters, Madonna Schackmann and Mary Lou Kessler; Edward and | ||||||
| 14 | Angela also have 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 | ||||||
| 15 | great-great-grandchildren; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Edward E. Hahn received his education in a | ||||||
| 17 | one-room schoolhouse, where one teacher taught eight grade | ||||||
| 18 | levels and there was a one-mile daily walk for the children; | ||||||
| 19 | his sisters took piano lessons while he listened and watched, | ||||||
| 20 | eventually learning to play a saxophone and violin by ear; he | ||||||
| 21 | then began playing in a band in order to earn extra spending | ||||||
| 22 | money, an activity he continued until starting a family; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Edward E. Hahn can remember going from utilizing a | ||||||
| 2 | horse and buggy to the advent of automobiles to seeing a man | ||||||
| 3 | land on the moon; he started farming with horses before getting | ||||||
| 4 | a tractor and more modern equipment later in his life; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Edward E. Hahn learned to drive at a very early | ||||||
| 6 | age and continued driving until the age of 97, due to poor | ||||||
| 7 | eyesight; he boasted at that time that he had never had an | ||||||
| 8 | accident or ticket; in 2005, he and his wife moved to Newton to | ||||||
| 9 | be close to their daughter, Madonna, and they continue to live | ||||||
| 10 | independently with the help of their daughter and | ||||||
| 11 | granddaughters; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Edward E. Hahn has been a lifelong member of the | ||||||
| 13 | Catholic Church, attending services at St. Mary's in Ste. Marie | ||||||
| 14 | and currently at St. Thomas in Newton; he is also a Fourth | ||||||
| 15 | Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 18 | extend our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Edward | ||||||
| 19 | E. Hahn on the occasion of his 100th birthday; that we commend | ||||||
| 20 | him for achieving a long and fulfilling life; and we wish him | ||||||
| 21 | continued happiness and good health in the future; and be it | ||||||
| 22 | further
