| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Dr. Gloria Jackson Bacon | ||||||
| 4 | as founder of TCA Health, Incorporated; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gloria Jackson Bacon was born in New Orleans; | ||||||
| 6 | her education began in New Orleans, and continued at Xavier | ||||||
| 7 | University where she received her B.S. degree in Pre-Med; she | ||||||
| 8 | was admitted to medical school at Howard University, completing | ||||||
| 9 | the first two years there before transferring to the University | ||||||
| 10 | of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago where she received | ||||||
| 11 | her M.D. degree (and later an M.P.H. degree); and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Upon the completion of a rotating internship, she | ||||||
| 13 | began practice on the west side of Chicago in a very busy | ||||||
| 14 | office; after one year in that setting, she was introduced to | ||||||
| 15 | the Altgeld Gardens community,) where she spent the next | ||||||
| 16 | thirty-five years organizing and operating the Clinic in | ||||||
| 17 | Altgeld, Incorporated (now TCA Health, Incorporated, Chicago); | ||||||
| 18 | and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson Bacon was an elected official of the | ||||||
| 20 | State of Illinois, serving on the Board of Trustees for the | ||||||
| 21 | University of Illinois; in addition to her great dedication to | ||||||
| 22 | the practice of medicine, she has often used the medium of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | poetry to speak of injustices and record observations noted in | ||||||
| 2 | life; she has three published volumes of poetry; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, During the
past decade, she resumed singing; a | ||||||
| 4 | mezzo-soprano, she has thrilled audiences at major concert | ||||||
| 5 | halls and cathedrals around the country; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Since leaving the daily practice of medicine, Dr. | ||||||
| 7 | Bacon developed the Institute for Black Women, Inc. and Project | ||||||
| 8 | 18; the Institute for Black Women, Inc., in conjunction with | ||||||
| 9 | Malcolm X College, developed A Series of Symposia on issues | ||||||
| 10 | relevant to women in celebration of Women's Month in 2003 and | ||||||
| 11 | 2004; presentations are scheduled to be an annual event each | ||||||
| 12 | March; Project 18, A Concept of Urban Education, seeks to | ||||||
| 13 | empower parents with the tools needed to inspire and guide | ||||||
| 14 | their children towards achieving success; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate and thank Dr. Gloria Jackson Bacon for her years | ||||||
| 18 | of commitment to the needs of others; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Dr. Gloria Jackson Bacon as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 21 | respect and esteem.
