| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are proud to express their support for the Town | ||||||
| 4 | of Cicero's "Ceasefire Week", to be held during the week of | ||||||
| 5 | June 22-27, 2008; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, CeaseFire is an initiative of the Chicago Project | ||||||
| 7 | for Violence Prevention; the initiative is a strategic public | ||||||
| 8 | health effort to reverse the violence epidemic using highly | ||||||
| 9 | trained street outreach staff, public education campaigns, and | ||||||
| 10 | community mobilization and is run by Corazon Community Services | ||||||
| 11 | in Cicero; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, CeaseFire is committed to making a difference in | ||||||
| 13 | the lives of youth, families, and the general community in | ||||||
| 14 | Cicero; Corazon Community Services annually serves | ||||||
| 15 | approximately 1,000 young people through their programs and | ||||||
| 16 | services, with approximately 45% of their employees consisting | ||||||
| 17 | of local youth from the community; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Corazon Community Services, in collaboration with | ||||||
| 19 | the Town of Cicero, community based organizations, and | ||||||
| 20 | churches, has introduced "Ceasefire Week" in Cicero in order to | ||||||
| 21 | involve youth, parents, churches, law enforcement, local | ||||||
| 22 | elected officials, and other community based organizations and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | businesses to connect and kick off the summer with peace and | ||||||
| 2 | non-violence; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Last year thousands of young people and their | ||||||
| 4 | families participated in the week long events of "Ceasefire | ||||||
| 5 | Week"; for the 2008 celebration, Corazon plans to have soccer | ||||||
| 6 | tournaments at their new soccer field, volleyball games at | ||||||
| 7 | Morton East, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Cicero Stadium, | ||||||
| 8 | softball games at Kolar Field, community murals, and a peace | ||||||
| 9 | march and youth concert; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Corazon Community Services, the Town of Cicero, | ||||||
| 11 | and the numerous community organizations involved with | ||||||
| 12 | "Ceasefire Week" are to be commended for their work with the | ||||||
| 13 | children of Cicero and for spreading the message of | ||||||
| 14 | non-violence to all; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | express our support for the Town of Cicero's "Ceasefire Week" | ||||||
| 18 | and wish the event organizers and participants success and | ||||||
| 19 | happiness during their festivities; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Cicero Town President Larry Dominick and a | ||||||
| 22 | representative of Corazon Community Services as a symbol of our | ||||||
