| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Arthur |
| 4 |
| Richoz of Elgin, who passed away on May 18, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz was born in October of 1922; he |
| 6 |
| married Elinor Radde on December 19, 1942; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz served his country with pride and |
| 8 |
| distinction as a member of the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th |
| 9 |
| Division of the United States 7th Army during World War II; |
| 10 |
| after several automatic deferments due to his job, he joined |
| 11 |
| the service in July of 1944 and became a member of the famed |
| 12 |
| "Thunderbirds"; the combat wounds he suffered while serving in |
| 13 |
| the European theater earned him the nickname of "Purple Heart |
| 14 |
| Art"; in addition to his Purple Heart, he was also the |
| 15 |
| recipient of the Bronze Star and 6 other medals; following his |
| 16 |
| tour of duty, he became a staunch supporter of veterans' causes |
| 17 |
| and maintained close ties to veterans from World War II to the |
| 18 |
| Iraqi war; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz was employed as a tool and die maker |
| 20 |
| with the Illinois Watch and Case Factory before World War II; |
| 21 |
| after the war, he worked briefly at International Harvester, |
| 22 |
| where he was involved in the construction of one of the largest |
