| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Denise McCormick |
| 4 |
| on the occasion of receiving the Paramedic Medal of Valor on |
| 5 |
| May 15, 2008; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Denise McCormick earned the Paramedic Medal of |
| 7 |
| Valor based upon events occurring on the afternoon of September |
| 8 |
| 17, 2006, when Chicago Fire Ambulance 5 was on route to Christ |
| 9 |
| Hospital in Chicago with a patient in need of trauma care; |
| 10 |
| during the trip, Ambulance 5 was struck by another vehicle, |
| 11 |
| causing the ambulance to spin around, and then flip onto its |
| 12 |
| driver's side; Ms. McCormick was behind the wheel of the |
| 13 |
| ambulance during this tense situation; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Following the crash, Denise McCormick suffered |
| 15 |
| numerous injuries; despite her own wounds, however, she managed |
| 16 |
| to free herself from the wreckage and call over the ambulance's |
| 17 |
| radio for help; with the help of an unknown citizen, she |
| 18 |
| entered the rear compartment and freed the other occupants in |
| 19 |
| the ambulance, moving them to a safe location and performing |
| 20 |
| triage; in the process of treating the injured, she noticed |
| 21 |
| that her partner, Charles Reeves, was in serious respiratory |
| 22 |
| distress; Ms. McCormick went to his aid, despite her own |
| 23 |
| injuries, and cleared his airway and used an ambu bag to |
